Black & Decker BDL170 BullsEye Auto-Leveling Laser with AnglePro

I’ve seen the troubles facing my friends and family members while decorating the new house after moving in. I might face the same problem. But when the time came to decorate my new home I didn’t have any trouble.

Thanks to some excellent products, which are designed and worked for various activities related to home decoration. I found them after doing some market research.

One of that right product is, Black & Decker Laser Lever, to be exact – “Black & Decker BDL170 BullsEye Auto-Leveling Laser With AnglePro”.

It is one of the best Laser Level in the market for home using. I am happy hanging pictures, setting up mirrors and hanging different angled items on various places of the house with perfectly lined up or angled up positions. I avoid a fair amount of time wasting by using the laser level.

Who is it for

People who want to install wallpaper borders, hang pictures, decorative items, shelving and angled application accurately in their home.

This product is a must for them for leveling those items. They will look bad or odd without alignment.

People who are working on home interior decorating projects. It helps a lot for these projects. For example, someone wants to hang items along a staircase. But without leveling properly, that will look like a mess.

People are working on any other projects, except professional ones, where wall base laser leveling is required. This device cannot function as a professional device for making negligible deficiencies in leveling.

Benefits of the Product

Black & Decker Bullseye, projects vertical and horizontal lines. These lines are used for reference points or lines for my household ‘hanging items’ like pictures, decorative pieces, mirrors, angled items, etc.

BDL170 levels automatically and makes a reference to angled lines. It levels automatically without taking any adjustments.

Also, it makes the device easy to use and gives users a hands-free comfort. I just place the leveler on the wall with or without attachment, and it levels itself accordingly.

The leveler provides an automatic reference for angled lines. It is an extra feature of this leveler.

It comes with an attachment, a wall mount, with a flip on/off the spike. Users can hang it on the wall with the help of the spike and laser leveler attach with the mount magnetically.

This way ‘no hand’ is required for the laser lever for making reference lines on the wall.

Black & Decker Bullseye auto leveling level is covered with rubber over mold for additional protection of the device.

It helps because little impacts have almost no effect on the instrument. It also has a backlight for a bright view of the angle reference points.

It has a 2-year limited warranty and fresh AAA batteries included. It means that you can unpack and use it without any delay for arranging specific cells.

Pluses

  • It projects vertical and horizontal lines for reference points helps to level of hanging pictures, decorating items, etc.
  • It levels automatically without needing any adjustments by hand.
  • It gives an automatic reference for angled lines.
  • It has a small backlight for clear viewing of these angled reference points.
  • It has a cooling adjustment (wall mount) with a spike for hanging the leveler on the wall.
  • The leveler is hanging freely, so users can use both hands for work.
  • The attachment spike created hole can work as a ‘pilot hole’ for making other holes.

Minuses

  • Auto level adjustments are sometimes not working correctly. The error margin for that is negligible for home use, but it can’t be insignificant as a professional device.
  • The laser beams are not quite visible in the daytime while using it outdoors.

What people are querying about the product

The leveler works simple ways. First, I need to place the laser leveler on the wall with the attachment, though it can be used without that attachment if you don’t want to drill. The attachment has a spike.

I flip and expose it and press it with my thumb to make a hole in the drywall and hang the attachment along with laser leveler. Then I press the buttons left for left horizontal lines, top for vertical lines and right for right horizontal lines.

This product - bullseye auto leveling laser with angle pro, cannot project horizontal lines both side (left and right of the device) at the same time.

The device is levels itself automatically, so it gives consumers a hand free comfort. But it will not perform great under bright, sunny light. The laser beams it projects fades under sunlight and cannot see more than couple of feet.

Insider Tips

  • Shake up softly the leveler before placing it on the wall. This way sometimes might overcome the error in leveling up.
  • Keep out the reach of the children. Do not use leveler when any child is there.
  • Place the leveler and look the laser lines in a way avoiding any direct or indirect eye contact with laser beams altogether.
  • Use recommended type batteries only. Other batteries may harm the device or cannot perform functions correctly.
  • Do not use any telescope like a visual tool for viewing the laser lines and never use this device with explosive around.

Final Verdict

Bullseye black and decker is not a product of daily use. But like all the 'other necessary but not regularly used products – first aid box, electrical primary tool, drilling tools and so on, you must have at least one in your home.

There is not a house without pictures or mirrors or decorated items or angled items and no need for hanging them without aligning. It is not only one of the great laser levels for hanging pictures in the market but also it can provide an auto reference for angled lines.

It’s unique features like auto leveling without adjustment, magnetic connection with the attachment gives the user a hands-free comfort of using it. If you are looking for a laser leveler for your home, this is the product I recommend.

What You Should Know:

  • The sure grip laser level attaches to textured walls that have a maximum depth of 1/8 inches. It wraps around wall corners too. It does not go THROUGH walls!
  • Contrary to what people are misconstruing this device for, the BDL100AV does not measure distance. It is a leveling tool, not a measuring one.
  • This All-in-One Suregrip Laser Level does NOT involve you having to bore holes in the walls. As long as your walls are more or less smooth, this device will do the trick.
  • It comes with a push pin to hang it from the wall, but there isn't need to use the pin unless you have very textured walls.

A small Trick!

In case your wall is heavily textured, or the suction cup does not work well, or you don't enjoy the idea of using a pushpin to hold the device in place, just get a thin wire to make a sort of hook and slide the head of the device into it.

Thus, it creates a makeshift hanger. Now, use a piece of cello-tape to secure your holder. It does not cost a dime, and keeps your wall completely free of pinholes! Isn’t it the easiest laser wall level?

Final Words

This reliable tool does exactly, what it was designed to do: guide a flat line to hang up shelves, mirrors and frames and to level out other appliances.

The powerful, red beam even wraps around corners, continuing 4-6 feet onto the adjacent wall to give a PERFECT alignment. The device keeps your hands free to do the actual hanging by reducing unwanted clutter (measuring tapes and rulers)!

The suction holds for hours on smooth, painted walls for COMPLETELY SMUDGEFREE WALLS and the fantastic built-in audio feature even levels appliances that your eyesight cannot reach.

The Black & Decker Laser Level is the slickest leveling device, ever! Take it from a thoroughly satisfied customer.

Rolair JC10 1 HP Oil-Less Compressor – Guide & Review

Click to Tweet

I run a small wood shop, and I use a wide variety of power tools to get the job done right. One of the most important tools I use is an air compressor.

Whether I use it to clean off a freshly carved piece or power a nail gun, an air compressor is vital to my needs. I used to use a small Makita unit, but after several years, it broke and would cost more to fix than just buying a new one.

That’s when I found the Rolair JC10 Oil-Less Compressor. Since I don’t use that much power, I needed something compact, yet strong enough to do everything I needed it to do.

In that regard, the JC10 has been a valuable addition to my tool set.

Today I’ll be showing you the benefits of this wonderful and versatile machine, as well as show you what to look for in an air compressor so you can find the right model for your needs.

How to Choose an Air Compressor

When it comes to air compression, no two units are made alike. There are multiple ways to compress the air and deliver it, and each method has its own benefits and downsides.

When looking for the right compressor for your needs, take these factors into consideration before making your purchase.

Compression Type

There are three primary methods of air compression, as listed below.

Piston-Driven

By far the most common compression type is piston-driven, and it operates the same way your car’s engine does.

Metal pistons push air into the tank at a high rpm to generate more pressure. This method works just fine, but it does require oil for lubrication;

Otherwise the pistons will wear down and break. Since piston-driven compressors are more common, they are usually the cheapest option.

Rotary Screw

If you want to upgrade from a piston compressor, or you need cleaner air, then a rotary screw compressor is the best way to go.

The way this system works is that two screws rotate in tandem with each other to drive air into the tank and increase the pressure.

Since the screws never touch each other and don’t have to recycle, this system can compress air much faster and doesn’t require oil lubrication.

Centrifugal

Large scale projects typically require a lot of air pressure, and that’s where a centrifugal system comes into play.

This system works by using impellers to drive air into the tank. By design, the air will be cleaner and compressed much faster,

So centrifugal compressors are usually used in industrial applications that need clean air, like medical devices or food preparation.

Motor

Depending on the type of work you’ll be doing, you want a motor that can provide enough power. Typically, a compressor’s motor is measured in horsepower.

The more horsepower it generates, the faster you can increase the pressure and the more efficient your system.

However, higher horsepower means more energy, so keep in mind your electrical limitations when choosing the right motor.

Large scale compressors usually run on a gas-powered motor, though, which are ideal for remote locations or bigger jobs.

Output

When measuring the performance of an air compressor, you need to know how much pressure and air it will generate.

There are two number that you need to look at to determine if your compressor is powerful enough.

The first is the amount of air produced, which is measured in cubic feet per minute (CFM). Smaller models will have a CFM output of 2-3 whereas large compressors can generate 5-6 CFM.

Make sure that you have enough to power any machinery that requires compressed air.

The second thing to look for is the amount of air pressure, which is measured in pounds per square inch (PSI). Usually, the higher the CFM rating, the more pressure is generated.

For example, the Rolair JC10 has a CFM output of 2.35 and operates at a max PSI of 90.

Model

As I mentioned, there are a ton of different compressor models you can choose. Here are the most common.

● Inflator: if you just need to inflate beach balls or air mattresses, you don’t need anything too powerful.

Inflators are designed just to pump air through a hose to inflate whatever you need. As a result, these models don’t come with an air tank

● Pancake: a step up from inflators is a pancake type air compressor. If you need to have more air pressure or output, but don’t need anything too powerful,

A pancake compressor is a great, low-cost option. The name refers to the shape of the tank, which is flat and circular

Hot Dog: by far one of the most common model designs is the hot dog style compressor.

Using a single, cylindrical tank, hot dog models can be small or big, and are used for a wide variety of applications

Twin Stack: for double the pressure and output, choose a twin stack model. This style of compressor looks similar to a hot dog version, but it has two tanks instead of one

Pontoon: this model is very similar to a twin stack, but the tanks are usually on either side of the motor, and typically are much larger than most twin stack compressors.

The name comes from the fact that this style represents a pontoon boat

Wheelbarrow: for larger jobs that require much more pressure and air output, a wheelbarrow compressor is an ideal choice.

While you can choose to have a standing or mounted compressor, a wheelbarrow model is much more maneuverable since it has a wheel and handles for better control.

Truck-Mounted: if you need the most power possible while still maintaining the ability to move the compressor to where you want it,

then a truck-mounted model is the way to go. These compressors are typically huge and can power large machinery.

Air Compressor Tips and Tricks

To get the most out of your compressor, follow this advice.

  • Turn off the unit when not in use
  • Clean your tank regularly to remove water and debris
  • Change the oil regularly and clean the drain valve
  • Check all fittings and attachments regularly and tighten as needed

I work in construction. I don’t do any big jobs, but I do mostly contract work for home remodels and such. In this industry, you need to have the best equipment.

One piece that I use on a constant basis is an air compressor. Whether I’m powering tools or using it to paint an area, a quality air compressor is necessary for a job well done.

One of the best companies for air compressors is Makita. For years, I’ve been using Makita products, and today I’ll talk to you about one of the most powerful and versatile compressors they make, the MAC700 Big Bore Compressor.

I’ll also be showing you the basics of air compression and what to look for when buying one.

Air Compressor Types

When it comes to compressing air, there are three primary ways to do it. Piston, rotary, and centrifugal compression all have benefits and downsides. Here are the main distinctions of each type.

Piston

Piston-driven compressors (also known as reciprocating compressors) are by far the most common model, since they are easy to build and work well in a variety of applications.

This device works similarly to your car’s engine. A metal piston pushes air into a tank to increase the overall air pressure. Most piston units are lubricated with oil to keep everything running smoothly.

Rotary

Rotary compressors use two screws to push the air into the tank. The way it works is that the screws are set up so they drive air one way, but still create an airtight seal.

Rotary compressors operate much more efficiently than piston models since they can continuously push air into the tank without having to recycle. Also, since the screws never actually touch each other, they don’t need lubrication to stay in working order.

The downside of rotary compressors is the cost since they are usually more expensive than piston models.

Centrifugal

The most powerful type of compressor is a centrifugal model. The way this unit works is that impellers spin rapidly and drive air into the tank.

Centrifugal compressors can generate a lot of pressure, and they inherently provide clean air, which are the two main reasons to use one. Usually, however, centrifugal units are bigger and costlier than rotary and piston models.

What to Consider When Buying an Air Compressor

If you need an air compressor, there are certain factors that you need to consider when making your purchase. Since there are so many varieties to choose from, you need to look at the following options to make sure that your compressor will fit your needs.

Size

If you only do small jobs at home or at a workshop, then you shouldn’t need a very large air compressor.

When comparing different compressors, you need to look at the size of the reserve tank to get an idea of the amount of pressure it can generate and the level of performance it will have.

Simply put, the smaller the tank, the less power it will have, and vice versa.

Air Output

Since air compression is the whole purpose of this machine, you need to look at how much pressure it can generate to ensure that it will perform adequately for your needs.

There are two main numbers to look at: the PSI (pounds per square inch) and the CFM (cubic feet per minute) rate. Certain machinery will only operate at a particular level of PSI, so you need to make sure that your compressor reaches that amount.

The CFM rate will determine how fast your unit recycles, so you know how long you can maintain that max pressure.

Noise

As with all mechanical devices, air compressors make noise. In some cases, they can make a lot of noise.

If you work in a shop with other people or need to keep the noise level down, look for a compressor model that doesn’t operate at high decibels. A good measurement is human speech, which is usually rated at about 76 decibels.

If your compressor is as loud or quieter than that, you’re golden.

Model Type

Even though there are only three types of compression systems, there is a multitude of compressor models from which to choose. Here are the most common.

Inflator: if you just need a quick and easy device to inflate tires, balls, and other household items, an inflator is perfect for you. Usually, inflators just pump air directly, rather than storing it in a tank to increase the overall pressure. In essence, whatever you’re inflating is the reserve tank, and the inflator is the compression system.

Pancake: for small compression jobs that require more PSI than an inflator, a pancake model is best. This compressor is so named because the shape resembles a pancake.

Hot Dog: whoever named compressor models must have been hungry, since hot dog compressors resemble, you guessed it, a hot dog. This type of compressor is usually a step up from the pancake models since the tank is typically larger.

Twin Stack: if you want two hot dog tanks stacked on top of each other, a twin stack design is ideal for you.

Pontoon: this model is similar to a twin stack compressor, but instead the tanks are side by side and resemble a pontoon boat. Usually, pontoon compressors are much larger and can generate more PSI and a higher CFM rate.

Wheelbarrow: one of the biggest styles of compressor that isn’t mounted to the wall is the wheelbarrow model. These compressors can resemble a pontoon model, but have a wheel system that is similar to a wheelbarrow so that you can move it around much easier.

Truck-Mounted: if you need maximum power but still need your compressor to be relatively portable, then a truck-mounted model is the one for you. These compressors are big and bulky, but as long as they are on a truck, you can move them from place to place while still maintaining maximum performance.

Accessories

When choosing your air compressor, you want to keep in mind any other accessories that may come with it.

For example, a lot of compressors don’t come with a hose (or a flimsy one), so you may need to buy a hose just to use it.

Also, look for hose attachments, filters, and any other add-ons that can enhance your compression experience. If you want clean air, then look for a model that comes with a cooling system attachment so you can get much cleaner air than you would otherwise.

FAQs

Q: Can I use this air compressor for spray painting?

A:  As long as you cool the air down, yes you can. However, be aware that this machine is oil lubricated, so the air will not be clean. This can affect the paint job. I’d only use it for painting wood or other pieces that don’t need to be pristine.

Q: Is this powerful enough to use with a framing nailer?

A:  Yes, the output of air and pressure is more than sufficient for a framing nailer or other nail gun.

Q: I’ve noticed a high-pitched squealing noise coming from the device. What should I do?

A:  That could indicate a snapped belt or a high-pressure leak. Do not use the compressor if it starts making that noise. Instead, get it serviced and checked out.

Final Verdict - Makita MAC700 Big Bore 2.0HP Air Compressor

I’ve always been a big fan of Makita products, and the MAC700 Big Bore is one of my favorite tools. Since I got it, I’ve used it practically every day, and it works just as well now as it did on day one.

What I like about this model is the quiet operation and the fact that it uses much less power than other compressors I’ve used.

Sometimes we have to work from a portable generator, so it’s nice to have a powerful machine that won’t trip the breaker every time I use it. I also like the size and shape of this model. Since it has a roll bar attached, I can pick it up and move it relatively easily (at least for me).

Some people may think it’s too heavy and bulky, but for me it’s perfect. I don’t like that it’s a little top-heavy, but I haven’t had any problems so far. Overall, I really like the MAC700 Big Bore Air Compressor.

It all started with a loose piece of trim that bordered the edge between the hardwood floor in the dining room and the carpet in the living room. At some point, the small nail or brad holding it down had worked its way through or out of the trim. It was sticking up slightly.

One dark winter morning, my wife was struggling to get to work on time when the unthinkable happened. She tripped on the loose trim and fell down. What followed was a string of obscenities so colorful and vulgar that the entirety of the U.S. Navy would have been proud. After loudly telling me that I needed to fix the piece of trim, she left for work.

Senco PC1010

As I looked around our home, I noticed several other pieces of moulding, trim, and baseboards that could use some tuning up. I have never been the kind of guy to work on small, intricate jobs like finish carpentry, so I decided to get the right tools for the job to increase my chances of success. To nail down the trim and other pieces around the house without damaging it, I needed an air compressor and a small nail gun.

After hours of research about air compressors, I finally decided on the best one to buy for my own purposes. The air compressor I decided on is the Senco PC1010 1-Horsepower Peak, ½ hp running 1-Gallon Compressor. I like this compressor so much, I felt compelled to write a review article about it so that I could share this great product with others. Here are some of my favorite features about the PC1010:

Materials

Just looking at pictures of the Senco PC1010, you can tell that it’s made with quality materials. The aluminum storage tank looks lightweight and strong, and has some beautiful welds joining the pieces together. All pipe fittings are brass for durability and rust resistance.

The air tubing is copper for strength and durability as well. The tube steel carrying handle is extremely strong and doubles as a protective cage for the more sensitive parts, like the gauges and regulator. The only plastic part on this compressor is the knob to adjust the air output on the regulator.

Everything on the PC1010 is made with strength and durability in mind. The one year warranty is another good indicator that Senco built this air compressor to last.

Portability

When selecting a small air compressor, portability is an important consideration. The PC1010 is a very portable compressor. The dimensions of this compressor are: 14 inches long by 13 inches wide by 10 inches high.

That is a nice compact size, which makes it easier to store and move around. Another item that affects portability is weight. This compressor has a total weight of 20 pounds, which is light enough for virtually anyone to move around very easily. When it comes to portability, the Senco PC1010 has you covered.

Performance

The electric motor on the PC1010 delivers 1 horsepower at peak operation and ½ horsepower during normal running. That’s plenty of power to drive the compressor unit efficiently. When it comes to air compressor performance, storage tank capacity is an important factor.

Storage tank size determines the volume of air delivered, usually measured in cubic feet per minute, or cfm. The volume of air delivered by this compressor is about .8 cfm, which is great for inflation jobs and small air tools. It takes this compressor only 2 minutes to pump up from 0 psi, or empty, to 120 psi. Recovery time is the time that it takes for a compressor to refill after the pressure drops and the motor kicks back on.

The recovery time for the PC1010 is 35 seconds, which is fairly quick. With all this performance, you would think that this compressor might be a little loud for inside use. This is not the case. This compressor is much quieter than similarly sized pancake-style compressors, which makes it ideal for indoor use.

The Extras

There are several features on this compressor that make it stand out from the competition. It has soft rubber feet, so you can put it on any floor or countertop and use it without worrying that you will damage the surface. Another nice feature is the drain valve on the bottom of the storage tank.

After each use, you can drain any water that has condensed inside the tank, which keeps your tool air dry and the tank free from any water damage. One of the best parts about this air compressor is the dual pressure gauges. One gauge shows you the pressure inside the storage tank, while the other allows you to adjust the air pressure flowing out of the regulator.

This is fantastic when you are running lower pressure air tools, because you can accurately adjust the output. The last feature I really like is the foam grip on the carrying handle. This may seem trivial, but it’s nice to have a comfortable grip to carry any tool, especially when you are covering some distance or climbing up and down ladders.

Pros:

  • Lightweight, compact design makes this unit very portable
  • Made with strong, durable materials
  • Fast fill and recovery times
  • Quiet operation makes it ideal to use anywhere
  • Dual pressure gauges let you monitor internal and output pressures
  • Rubber feet to protect floors and countertops
  • Oil-free design for low maintenance and clean tool air
  • One year manufacturer’s warranty

Cons:

  • Does not include hoses or accessories
  • Will not run large air tools

Features:

  • 1 hp peak ½ hp operating electric motor, 4 amp
  • 1 gallon storage tank capacity
  • Dual pressure gauges
  • 125 psi maximum pressure
  • Storage tank drain valve
  • Lightweight, compact design
  • 2 minute pump up, 35 second recovery time
  • Rubber feet to protect surfaces
  • Great for finish and trim work, crafts and hobbies
  • One year warranty

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

A: In addition to the tank drain, you can release the pressure using the safety valve on top of the tank.

Q: What is the maximum pressure on the Senco 1010 compressor?

A: This air compressor has a maximum pressure of 125 pounds per square inch.

Q: Is this compressor good for airing up vehicle tires and inflating bicycle tires? I’m looking for something small and quiet that will work for this.

A: The Senco 1010 should work just fine for pumping up bike and car tires.

Q: Does the compressor come with an accessory kit or do I have to buy it separately?

A: No accessories are included with this compressor. You must buy an accessory kit separately.

Q: How well would this compressor work with a hardwood floor stapler? I’m a homeowner, and would only use it for this to complete one room.

A: That depends on the stapler. Always compare the air demand for the tool in cubic feet per minute with the abilities of the compressor to see if it will work.

Final Verdict - Senco PC1010 Air Compressor

If you are looking for a lightweight, portable air compressor I highly recommend the Senco PC1010 1-Gallon Compressor. It can handle any inflation, light nailing or stapling, airbrushing, or crafts and hobbies jobs reliably and well.

Extra features like the storage tank drain and the dual pressure gauges make this compressor the best in its class. And as for the price, look it up online and I think you’ll be surprised. The Senco PC1010 is a nice value for your money.
